Trainer Ride

Since it stays darker longer in the morning, I've been doing my runs and rides in the afternoon after work.  This afternoon, however, the weather turned ugly.  The temps dropped, the wind picked up, and rain started to fall.  Luckily I still have James' trainer in my garage (from when I borrowed it to use with John's Power Cranks & bike), so I didn't have to "brave" the elements.  If you don't already know, I should tell you that I absolutely dislike trainer workouts.  During the ones I've had this season, I've watched the movies "Heat" and "Jurassic Park" to help with the monotony.  This time, I found a DVD of stage 17 of the 2006 Tour de France.  It's the one where Floyd Landis makes one of the most incredible (if not THE most incredible) comebacks in the history of the race.  Of course, we all know now that he was on PEDs and was blood doping, but so were the majority of the other guys he was crushing that day.  It was still entertaining to watch all over again.

Here is what I was supposed to do today (1:30 total):
  • Warm up 15 min with spin ups, stand ups and builds up to zone 3.-- Make sure you are plenty warm before start of MS
  • MS: 5 x 1 min in hard gear turning at 85-95 rpm. These are at max effort. 2 min ez-- 3 x 10 min tempo z3 power w 4 min easy recovery
  • Remainder of time at easy zone 2 to build cardiovascular endurance.
  • Purpose of workout it to build strength and V02 max on first set then work tempo on tired legs. Last segment is to build CV endurance
And here are my notes:

"I think I did most of the surges. After that, however, I just spun at a moderate pace. As you can see, I couldn't get off quick enough!" ~ I stopped precisely at 1:30:02
