Final Training Numbers

After looking at my workout schedule again, I see that I actually have one more run scheduled for today.  I erroneously indicated, in previous blog entries, that I was done running.  Mentally, I've been done running since Tuesday and completely done training as of yesterday.  With that in mind, I made the executive decision to skip today's run and settle into my recovery.  If I did do it, here is what I was supposed to do:
  • 40 Minutes
  • 15min w-up 5min drills + strides
  • 3 x 90 seconds @ 10k effort / 2min ez -probably somewhere at 7:30/mile pace
  • 10min c-d
Now that I've got that out of the way, let's take a look at some numbers, shall we?

As far as workouts go, my biggest months in terms of swimming, biking, and running for my 2010 IMAZ (12/09 - 11/10) were as follows:

SWIM - March (47500 yards = 26.98 miles)
BIKE - September (802.23 miles)
RUN - October (104.9 miles)

This time around (12/11 - 11/12), it looked like this:

SWIM
- October (48579 = 27.60 miles)
BIKE - October (518.06 miles)
RUN - July (96.33 miles)

Here is what my swimming yards, bike miles, and running miles looked like during my 11 month training period for IMAZ 2010:

SWIM - 248,741 yards (141.33 miles)

BIKE - 5676.37 miles
RUN - 677.21 miles

TOTAL MILES COVERED = 6,494.91

And here is what it looked like this time around (keeping in mind real training didn't start until May):

SWIM - 270,860 yards (153.90 miles) & 1 hour in an endless pool
BIKE - 3872.14 miles & 4.5 hours on the trainer
RUN - 522.41 miles & 1 hour on the Power Cranks

TOTAL MILES COVERED = 4,538.28

Here is a breakdown of the numbers between IMAZ 2010 and IMAZ 2012:

SWIM - +22119 yards (+12.57 miles) for IMAZ 2012
BIKE - -1804.23 miles for IMAZ 2012
RUN - -154.80 miles for IMAZ 2012

TOTAL MILES COVERED =  -1956.63 for IMAZ 2012

As for the strengthening (core), IMAZ 2012 saw me in the gym 24 times compared to 14 in 2010.

In fact, I could go on and on about the radical differences between the two (Before hiring Frank as a coach for the last couple of months in 2010):
  • Quantity vs. Quality
  • Heel striking vs. Proper run technique and form
  • Essentially no HR info vs. Understanding HR and training with it
  • Diet = Eat anything and everything to feed the furnace vs. Eating smart and clean with a purpose
  • Little to no recovery vs. Understanding the importance of recovery
  • No Supplementation vs. Beta-Alanine, Kry-Alkalyn, and Optygen
  • 6 100+ mile rides (not including IM) vs. only 2 this time
  • Needing a full year to train vs. 5 - 6 months
Speaking of diet (4th bullet point above) I also have some weight data (for my IMAZ 2012 season only).

I started tracking my weight on 01/04/2012.  Initially, I checked it about once per week before trying to check it daily in May only to fall back to "when I remembered" around September.  Take a look for yourself.  Here is the chart from 01/04/2012 - 11/15/2012:

And here are the highlights:
  • Initial weight (01/04/2012) = 166.5 lbs
  • 1st day of new diet (05/04/2012) = 165.5
  • Heaviest (02/08/2012) = 169
  • Lightest (11/03/2012) = 150.5
  • Today (11/12/2012) = 154
Any way I break all of this down, the fact that still remains as of today is that there are only 140.6 more miles to go to fulfill my IMAZ 2012 journey.
