USAT Level I CERTIFIED!

Yep, it's official!  I am now a certified triathlon coach!  It's funny to look back and see where life takes you and how you got to a certain point.  Back in December of 2009, some 52 months ago, I was blogging things like:
  • Question: Why did I sign up for the 2010 Ironman Arizona, a 2.4 mile swim in Tempe Town Lake, a 112 mile bike ride, and a full (26.2 mile) marathon, without ever competing in a triathlon before? Answer: I must be crazy.
And
  • December was somewhat of a "figuring out" month. Figuring out how to ride a tri bike effectively, figuring out that my gym shoes weren't suitable for running distances over 200 feet, figuring out that my cotton gym socks were probably going to give me blisters if I did, figuring out that a cotton t-shirt makes a miserable running shirt, figuring out when I'm going to have time to train, and figuring out some kind of plan.
Since then, I've completed triathlons in just about every distance, including 2 Ironmans, and have successfully earned the USAT I coaching certification.  Oh, in case you were wondering about my test score, I received a 100% on the multiple choice and 97% on everything else.  BOOM!

Fingers Crossed

Test submitted today.  Now it's just a waiting game.  USAT told us that the typical turnaround time for results is about 9 days.

I'm Baaaaaack!

Got back yesterday, and just as I suspected, there wasn't really anything to report about.  Classes were held over two days and were all day long.  We covered just about everything associated with the sport of triathlon.  Swimming, biking, running, planning, nutrition, psychology, etc. were all on the syllabus.  The presenters were all level II or III USAT coaches and had very impressive resumes that included a number of high level pros.  The weather wasn't anywhere near the snowy/cold conditions that were called for.  In fact, while it was still cold compared to Phoenix, it was quite pleasant.  While some other participants chose to go for a run outside, however, I still opted for a 40 min treadmill run.  All Earth shattering info, I know, but now that I'm done with the classroom portion, all I need to do now is pass the exam that consists of 75 multiple choice questions, 10 short answer questions, a 3 week training plan for an elite athlete, and a 1 week taper plan for a beginner leading up to his race.

I Just Can't Wait To Get On The Road

Santa Fe, New Mexico, here I come!  I'm leaving for my USAT certification class today.  Santa Fe is about a 7 hour drive from my house and the weather calls for 100% chance of snow and cold!  If there is anything remotely interesting to report, I'll let you know.  Otherwise, you'll hear from me sometime after the clinic.
