Still no “real running” to speak of this month. By that, I mean that I haven’t laced up the running shoes, donned the running gear, and got after even a 3 mile run. Heck, I haven’t even tried to get after a ½ mile run! The only “running” that I’ve done has come during my son’s flag football practice when we play some keep away or when I’m showing them how to run a route effectively. That being said, I didn’t experience any sort of discomfort at all, even when I was “cutting” and “juking.” I did notice, however, some mild/medium discomfort on my longest ride of the month….72 miles. I particularly felt it with about 16 miles to go, but once the ride was done, the discomfort went away. With football practices on Tuesday and Thursday and games on Saturday, I found a nice schedule consisting of swims on Monday and Friday with rides on Sunday and Wednesday. Since it’s a bit too chilly for me to get after it early in the mornings, my workouts were mostly in the late mornings (10:00) and after work (4:00). Like I said before, my longest ride was 72 miles and my shortest was a 25 mile speed ride. One ride that I am especially proud of was a 31 mile time trial around the West Side Loop that clocked in at 1:15:36 which is good for a 24.5 mph average.
I also joined STRAVA this month which is completely awesome. Not only does it give you the usual data, but it also ranks you against other cyclists in different “segments.” Anybody can create a segment at any point on their ride. Let’s say I do a 50 miler that takes me from 1st Street to 15th Street at some point. I simply tell the website to start timing at 1st and stop at 15th and anybody that passes through this part will have their time, and mph, recorded. Once that data is captured, STRAVA will then rank you against all others as well as any previous times that you’ve gone through. If you’d like to follow me on STRAVA (www.strava.com), all you have to do is create a free account, find me, and then click “follow.”
