September Numbers & Quite The Scare

September was a whirlwind of weekend activity!  I had a family vacation to California, Nathan’s Olympic, and the Tiki Swim in Oceanside kept me (and the fam) extremely busy….not to mention my training.  Speaking of training, I recently realized that I have yet to complete a 100 mile ride this year.  During my 2010 IMAZ training, I already had 5 of them by this time.  So far, my longest is only 80.08!  That being said, that should change pretty quickly as Carlos has a 5hr 15min ride scheduled for this Saturday.


On a side note, but equally as important, I ran for the first time in over a week today.  My last run, on 09/25, was an EZ 3.42 mile out and back from my house with Champ.  The very next day, I sent Carlos the following text:

“Can u give me a backup plan for tomorrow’s w/o?  My right knee has suddenly become tender today & I may not want to run on it tomorrow.  Same feeling that knocked me out of the RNR Marathon last year”

Let’s just say that I completely went into ultra conservative mode regarding anything to do with that knee and shut down running all together.  The way I look at it, better to rest it up for a week and lose some run fitness than have a complete disaster like RNR.  Carlos DID prescribe a couple of 30min “frequency runs”, but while I could do them, I opted for the rest instead.

Today’s run was another of those 3.4+ mile out and back “frequency runs” and I am happy to report that, well, there was nothing to report!  Only thing now is that I have to slowly get my running back to where it was and with only 45 days left until IM, that’s not exactly where I wanted to be.

OK, on to the numbers for September:

SEPTEMBER 2010 TOTALS:

SWIM = 28150 yards
BIKE = 802.23 miles (all tri)
RUN = 78.76 miles
GYM/STRENGTH = 0

SEPTEMBER 2012 TOTAL:

SWIM = 29639 yards (+1489 yards)
BIKE = 458.87 (-343.36 miles)(All tri)
RUN = 63.19 (-15.57 miles)
GYM/STRENGTH = 1 time

OVERALL 2010 SEASON (Dec 2009 – September 2010)

SWIM = 205,850 yards
BIKE = 4978.12 miles (3717.54 tri & 1260.58 road)
RUN = 557.41 miles
GYM/STRENGTH = 14 times

OVERALL 2012 SEASON (Dec 2011 – September 2012)

SWIM = 209,717 yards (+3867 yards) + 1 hour in the endless pool
BIKE = 3244.62 miles (-1733.5 miles)(2746.8 tri & 497.82 road)
RUN = 405.93 miles (-151.48 miles)
GYM/STRENGTH = 24 times
