First Run Since Ironman

This blog isn't intended to bore you with every insignificant swim, bike, run, hike, or whatever that I do, but sometimes it DOES have to be done.  You see, I also use this blog as a place where I can jot down events or notes that are more personal to me.  Oh sure, I let you in on them, but they aren't typically very entertaining.  A perfect example is this entry.

As I stated in my last entry, I was planning on going out for another spin today, but after checking out the wind, I decided to try an easy run instead (my first in 23 days).  As luck would have it, I was going to be meeting up with my co-worker/friend, Laura, for a run/walk workout at those soccer fields across from my work (I've mentioned them plenty of times in previous entries).  I planned on joining her after my ride, but I decided to head out there early (instead of riding) to see how the body would react to a nice run on the grass.  Given the fact that my knee area is still sending me dull reminders of what I did to it on November 18th and also given the fact that I'm waiting for two toenails to fall off any day, I didn't think I was going to be able to do much.  Maybe 3 miles in 30 minutes.  I thought that if I could do that, it would be a good sign.

As stated in previous entries, the entire perimeter of the two soccer fields is 1/3 of a mile.  After one lap around, I was feeling surprisingly good.  Still keeping it conservative, I forged on.  Somewhere during the second lap, however, that pesky ligament/tendon started talking to me.  It wasn't yelling, or speaking loudly, rather just enough so that I could hear.  Listening to my body, and still keeping it conservative, I forged on.  The dull pain never went away, but it wasn't a real factor either.  With that in mind, I picked up the pace and felt fine.  Overall, I covered 4.62 miles in 41:22 (8:57 pace).  Here is the link to more information:

I ended up stopping my run when Laura got off of work and set off on almost an hour and a half workout that included a personal best 1 mile of running for her!  It's always a great feeling to see somebody accomplish a goal and it's an even better feeling to be part of it.  You can check out her blog here:
